Who is Tamika L. Sims?
Tamika Sims, a South Carolina native, survived a physically, sexually and emotionally abusive relationship of eight years. Tamika is an author, advocate and survivor. Tamika published her debut novel, The Plus Factor, September 2011.
Tamika received the Bachelors of Science Degree in Information Technology from South University with a concentration in Database Administration. Tamika serves frequently as a lecturer at the University of South Carolina where her book is used as a text book in the Department of Women and Gender Studies. She is the 2012 BWABC Literacy Rocks Author of the Year Award Winner.
Tamika is a 2004 graduate of the United Way of the Midlands Blueprint for Leadership program. She believes strongly in volunteerism, civic engagement and serving in her local community. Tamika has received trainings in the following subjects and more: Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, The Batterer as Parent, Dating Violence, The Effects of Domestic Violence on Children, A Call to Men and Domestic Violence in the Faith Community. Tamika is currently employed at Lexington Medical Center as a Quality Data Specialist. Prior to Lexington Medical Center, Tamika was employed at Sistercare, Inc. as the Volunteer and Community Outreach Coordinator. Tamika has been featured in Skirt! Magazine and has served as an expert in the areas of domestic violence and sexual assault for numerous NBC, FOX, CBS affiliates and numerous radio stations. Tamika was also featured as a “Person to Count On” by WIS News 10 (NBC).
Tamika is the proud mom of one son. She enjoys writing, reading, music and is a self-proclaimed coffee lover.
