THE CHRISTIAN CRAB

THE CHRISTIAN CRAB

For the past several weeks I’ve been in conversations with various people who, like me, are Christian. During the discussions a common element has remain consistent, and what is that you might ask – it’s THE CHRISTIAN CRAB.

Now before I delve into this any further, let’s breakdown these three words. The is an article used to denote a person or a thing. Christian many profess to have the love of Christ in them, but their character has YET to line up with this title or calling, (oh, forgot to say, this is my own definition) and then you have the word Crab a ten-legged crustacean that with the right seasonings can be a delicious meal, especially with a salad. Personally, I only eat crab legs and it must be cooked Cajun style (lot of heat and spices). I wouldn’t mind going to…

No what! I’m having an epiphany…

Interesting…a crab walking sideways or crooked, if you will, then you compare that to a two-legged Christian, whose character is just as crooked.

Hmmm…

You might be wondering where I’m going with this, well here it is. Many Christians, and let’s keep this real. The writer does KNOW there are some who profess to be Christian and in fact are not. I’m not talking about those who fit in that category – I’m talking about those who are filled with the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues, yes I have a Pentecostal “Jesus Only” background and proud of it! Also know that I attend a non-denominational church for GOD didn’t create denominations.

Back to the description…

Who every time you turn around they have a program, function, Sunday go to meeting service, conference, prayer breakfast, dance presentation, prayer line, prayer breakfast (I purposely mentioned this twice). I’m talking about those who will send you a personal email, an e-blast, text message, voice mail, create a blog, call you on Skype, take out an ad, send out fliers, send you a webmail or create a PSA (public service announcement) and will hound you, in the form of a gentle reminder. Oh did I mention they’d create a social networking group, create an events page or send a post card that says “save the date”.

Did I forget anything?

I’m talking about those who befriend you and rope you into their dreams, their goals, their high holy events; it’s all about what God is doing through them. I’m talking about those who want to label you as one thing and you know full blown well God didn’t call you into that arena, but they try to make you fit into their program…

Know anyone like that?

Then because of your compassion and belief that you show yourself friendly, you believe in seed time and harvest time, you believe that what they are doing or trying to do is a good cause and you don’t want them to feel they are alone, and no you’re not a door mat, you attend the prayer line, prayer breakfast, that conference, lend financial support (by the way, why are there so many broke Christians – I don’t get it? Oh well, I guess that’s a topic for another discussion). Lend your talents if need be to make their event a success. They get to speaking in tongues, praying and fasting and provide a polite thank you with tears coming from their eyes. Then when their event is over –

Here’s comes the Crab…

You have a function, and guess what? They don’t support you under any circumstances. They don’t return your phone calls, you send an email, which lands in file 13 better known as delete. They don’t even send a dollar, or better yet, they make promises they have no intention on keeping, last time I check the word does say GOD HATES LIARS! They pray against you, come to find out their jealous, they become so busy they don’t have time to be a cheerleader for you. When you ask them to pray they come out of a bag and tell you “David didn’t need anyone. When he was going through he encouraged himself by getting the ephod..You don’t need anyone so grow up”.

Okaaaaay…

The many you supported throughout your life begin to act funny towards you. They don’t have the time to invest in your dreams, your goals, your mission, in other words YOUR MINISTRY. You’re not trying to convert them, hound them, pigeon hole them. You don’t even ask them for additional financial support. Why? Because you priced that ticket in a manner that would cover all cost, better still, you have an event where there’s no cost involved and you just want to be a blessing to the Body of Christ and they still won’t come.

Whuuuuuuuuut?

Oooooooooo it gets even better. If they were once unemployed now they obtained employment, they ignore you all the more because now they are “busy” with work. How soon they forget it was your prayers and fasting with them that helped them get the job.

Sounds like a user to me?

What about when they keep you on the phone for hours upon hours talking about their familial problems? Every time you turn around it’s about who did what to whom and how they’re family is treating them and how they feel. Yes some of you would say you put yourself in that position. This writer begs to differ. Many Christians are compassionate and believe in trying to help. For some it’s their ministry to counsel, for those who are like me I’ll personally cut you short if I feel you’re draining me. In fact, if I see your number I won’t answer the phone. Do I care who know this – no for I’ve made it known in the past that I’m not a dump site (that’s another topic for another time). Anyhoo, I’ve learned early in my walk with Christ about The Christian Crab.

Back to the event…

Then when your event has come and gone. People whom you just met gave you kudos (words of encouragement), talk to you about how it was a blessing to them and so forth you smile and praise God. You’re high in cloud seven that souls were reached, people were blessed, the mission impossible became possible and worship and bless God for it. Then

Here’s the crab…

However, the ones you supported, the so-called Christian friends, colleagues and/or associates. The same people whom you fasted and prayed with, whom you went out of your way and pocket to support, These USDA grade certified Christian Crabs try to tell you in a “polite” or “sweet way” how your event could have gone better. People like that makes you want to “blackout on them.” Don’t get sanctimonious on this writer all of us have been pushed to the brink, BUT didn’t allow the Christian Crab to bring you out of your character. Now for those of you that came out of character, well I pray that you repented and all is well with you – kumbaya.

Oh well… here’s a final thought…

For those who has fallen prey to The Christian Crab please know that you’re not alone. Will I tell you to let go and let God handle it? No, I won’t, just like the natural crab get cooked God will provide you with the recipe on how to handle them. Bon Appétit.
