Blessed Quietness by Wynter Patterson
Have you ever wanted to pray and didn’t know where to start? Have you ever had a situation that was so confusing that you didn’t even know the outcome to pray for? How about a time when you just couldn’t find the right words in prayer? I’m so glad that our Holy Spirit is an intercessor and according to the bible He can communicate our thoughts when we can’t find the words (Romans 8:26). The other day after dealing with a distressing situation, I was preparing to pray and I found that I was blessed by just being quiet. Instead of preparing my dissertation and laundry list of concerns, I just sat in quietness and allowed the Lord to speak to me. I allowed His peace to wash over me and it felt amazing! It was a moment for me to bask in His presence and hear His voice more clearly than ever. I didn’t concern myself with my situation or what I wanted God to do, I just sat in silence thinking of His power, His love, His omnipotence, and His presence with me at the moment. It was surreal. That’s when the holy spirit reminded me of a song I heard so long ago called Blessed Quietness. As a child I didn’t understand it, but as a maturing woman in Christ it all makes sense.
Blessed quietness, holy quietness,
Blest assurance in my soul!
On the stormy sea Jesus speaks to me,
And the billows cease to roll
It is in this “holy quietness” that God speaks to us and eases the pain of the storm. He is awesome! Being purposefully quiet in prayer will allow you to hear the whispers of God and receive a comforting peace that surpasses understanding. I implore you today and throughout your spiritual journey that you spend some time in “holy quietness”. Just take some time to put your concerns aside and dwell in His presence. You will come out renewed, revived and with clearer direction of what’s to come.
God Bless you and be encouraged!
